Duty Of Care & Legislation

Duty of Care

The harsh nature of HSC motion, with repeated shocks in excess of 20g, means that there is an increased risk to the crew and passengers of both fatigue and injury. Therefore it is an employers duty-of-care to their employees to reduce the risks to the employees’ health. This is normally addressed under Health & Safety requirements and as a result of undertaking Risk Assessment procedures.

Legislation

Within the Europe Union (EU) legislation exists restricting exposure to Physical Agents; this includes Whole Body Vibration (WBV), Hand & Arm Vibration (HAV), and noise. Therefore employers have to demonstrate compliance with the EU Directive and National legislation.

For assistance on compliance with the legislation, contact STR.

Health Surveillance

A requirement of the EU Directive on WBV is that the appropriate employee health surveillance programme should be implemented. Additional information can be found on the Health Surveillance page of this site and at www.h-surv.com.
